Ratings for Bluetooth Headsets

Before you purchase a new Bluetooth headset it may be worth your while to go one line and check the ratings written by users for the headset you are interested in.  First you need to decide what features are most important for you.  I want noise cancellation but my teenager may be more concerned about the ability to listen to music.

Manufacturers and retailers really do want to know what we want and don’t want with a headphone.  So they often ask us to rate the product.  We want things to perform as promised.  Ratings can help us choose which headset will be best for us.

Don’t buy into ratings that go to the extremes.  Such as, “This XOXO headset is perfect.”  Or one that says “1212 headset is a piece of junk, don’t buy it.”  Look for other ratings of that same product.

Look for reviews that are specific, for instance “This unit has great sound quality, is easy to use, but the noise cancellation could be improved.”

You will see ratings where people complain that they can’t get the new headset to work with their phone.  Often the problem is that they didn’t read the instructions that came with the headset or they have an older phone that is not Bluetooth enabled.

Most sites that ask you to rate a product will ask you to give from 1 to 5 stars, with one being the poorest rating and 5 being the best.

A five star rating for say a Silverado BT headset: “State of the art noise cancellation advanced Bluetooth technology which allows you to hear your caller in high wind or a noisy environment and long batter life.”  A three star rating may read “good sound quality, noise blocking could be improved and shorter call time then advertised, but controls are easy to access”.  We have rarely seen a rating lower than 3.

This is another 5 star rating – Blue Trek 3127 – if you remove the speaker cover it becomes a mini flash drive, voice dialing and 7 hours of talk time between charges.

The Jabra BT2040 was awarded a four because it never needs charging.

A 3 was given to the Jabra Jawbone Prime due to its Noise Assassin technology and wind restriction.

Some people base their ratings on the ease of pairing the headset to a phone.  We have heard complaints that “I spent a lot of money on this headset and it doesn’t work. (Another reason for a low rating)  Then you discover that the user didn’t know she had to actually pair it.

Ratings can be helpful in deciding which headset to buy, but as you can see this should not be the only deciding factor.
