How to Add Bluetooth to Your Cell Phone

Many U.S. states and municipalities have complete bans on cell phone use while driving unless you use a hands free device such as a “Bluetooth” headpiece.  Of course it would be better to not use a phone at all while driving but in today’s busy world that is not practical.

If you are buying a new cell phone, get your Bluetooth headset at the same time and ask the folks at the phone store to pair them for you.  However if they can’t for some reason it really isn’t that difficult.  Some of the instruction booklets make it seem like you need a degree.  Here are the basic steps to follow when trying to add a Bluetooth device to your cell phone.

Step 1 – Press and hold the multi-function button on your beam headset with the headset closed.  The light will turn blue.

Step 2 – Open the microphone, the light will stay on.  If not repeat step one.

Step 3 – Go to your mobile phone menu.  Then go to settings, then to connection.  Choose Bluetooth hands free and then new device.  Once a connection is found select H5810.

Step 4 – Enter pass key – 0000 to verify that a connection has been achieved.  Your phone should read “Bluetooth Connection”.

After the start up connection is made all you need to do is to turn on the power on the headpiece and the phone should recognize your Bluetooth.

To set the Bluetooth power on press settings then connections – the Bluetooth link.  Scroll to set up and select.  Next scroll to power and choose/change.  To to on and press select – the screen should now read changed power on.

Now you want to confirm the connection, close the headset and your cell phone should read disconnected.  Re-open the headset and the phone should automatically connect and your screen will read Bluetooth connected.

Of course all of this information assumes that your phone and headset are Bluetooth ready and all of  the above steps have been followed.

If you have a phone that is more than a couple of years old it may not be able to use a Bluetooth device.  Also many of the pay as you go phones are not Bluetooth compatible.  So make sure the phone you choose is Bluetooth enabled.

This is basically an overview of how to set up your hands free use of your cell phone.  When you purchase a new Bluetooth capable mobile phone follow the directions for your specific brand and model mobile phone.

These directions may be helpful in understanding the booklet that comes with your cell phone and or Bluetooth headset.

When driving your car only use your hands free device in an emergency.  If you are chatting with a friend about an upcoming date, party or vacation, you can’t be giving your full attention to what is going on around you and that could be fatal.
