Razr Cell Phone As Bluetooth Modem
Trying to get around in a city with a care every day can be a real headache. So try being a little green while saving money on gas by taking the bus. But taking the bus can be a little boring so why not get caught up on emails or other work related items. This can be done by using your Motorola Razr as a modem for your laptop as long as you have Bluetooth capabilities for your cell phone and your computer. You will also need an internet data plan or a dial up account. By using your Razr phone as a modem you don’t have to try and find a signal, as long as your phone has a signal you will be able to use the Internet on your computer. You don’t need to have just a PC to do this, you can also have a Mac too.
Setting up a PC is different from setting up a Mac so we’ll go over both in this article. This is just for the Razr. Other phones may be different so if you have a different phone you might want to look over your owner’s manual to see how to set your Razr up as a modem.
For your PC follow these steps and you will be up and running in no time. You will first have to pair your Bluetooth phone to your Bluetooth computer. On your phone you have the following options. Settings-connection-Bluetooth link-set up-find me. After you have done this, your Bluetooth will broadcast a signal to your laptop for about a minute. This should be plenty of time for your laptop to discover your device. Once the connection is done you should follow these steps.
- Go to start, click control panel.
- Find printers and other hardware then click Bluetooth devices.
- Follow the directions on the screen
For a Mac with OS you should follow these steps:
- Open applications-utilities-Bluetooth set up assistant.
- Select the device type, in this case mobile phone.
- Complete the pairing process.
This will complete the pairing process so that your phone will now be paired and able to use with your laptop. If you don’t sign up with an Internet data plan your phone will be linked but you won’t be able to get service. So you need to sign up for this connection in order to use your phone as a modem. This service isn’t expensive, with some plans starting as low as $19.99 a month. If you don’t have Bluetooth capabilities either on your phone or laptop you can purchase a kit to make them so. After all this is done you will have to connect your computer to the Internet for your PC. Go to start and select the connect menu. You will see a connect to network screen. Your phone should be listed here. Select your phone from the list and click connect. You will be told to enter your dial-up account user name, password and phone number.
The Mac is a little more complicated then the PC so if you have a Mac, using your owner’s manual is the best way to go.
