Bluetooth Pairing of Phonak SmartLink to Cell Phone
How you pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to a Phonak Smart Link headset to your cell phone depends on what phone you have. All phones are different and pairing methods can vary from one phone manufacturer to another.
Use the instructions that came with your phone to pair your Smart Link. You can pair several Bluetooth devices with your Smart Link but the connection can only be used for one device at a time.
When you pair your Smart Link to any device you should register it as a hands free or headset. Only in this way can you get audio data from a cellular phone, PDA, etc.
Use your Smart Link with MP3 players, computer, electronic agendas, and any Bluetooth devices that can send speech signals.
It is advisable to use smart link while watching a DVD on your computer since Bluetooth is a fairly slow connection and so the audio will not sync with the video. The quality and speed of audio is best when an audio input connection (menu-plug) is used.
Many people are concerned about using smart link when they have a pacemaker or other medical device. Check with your doctor or health care practitioner before using you cell phone and Smart Link. He or she can get the safety information from Phonak. The Health Industry Manufacturers Association recommends a minimum separation of 2.5 cm between a cell phone and a pacemaker.
Your cell phone should not be more than two to three meters apart as a standard headset and cellular phone. This will help you to get a really good reception. If you pass the maximum range you will get a “crackling noise” which can be picked up during a call.
Almost all Bluetooth enabled cell phones can be used with Phonak’s Smart Link. However the methods of connection, making and receiving calls, varies from one phone manufacturer to another, as does pairing. So check your phone’s menu-navigation in regards to Bluetooth.
While many cell phones use 0000 as a pin (pass code) Smart Link uses 1234. To double check you connection, press the keys on your phone or other device. You should instantly hear a tone through your Smart Link. Also the BT device menu on your phone will list it and an icon will show up on the phone’s screen.
If you have followed the instructions for pairing your BT phone with Smart Link and you can’t make it work ask your phone dealer to check to see if your Bluetooth function on your phone is working.
If your phone is OK you may want to have Phonak check to see if your Smart Link device is working properly. Or the problem could be that you have one of the very few mobile BT phones that don’t recognize Smart Link.
