Wireless Wlan Module
The wireless data module is an ieee 1394 mini pci card that can provide connection speeds up to 54 mbps so you can get a stable connection. The wlan module, as opposed to a LAN card, can connect your computer to any near wireless network. It can also be found in the USB interface, but the speeds are usually smaller in this case. Still, the wlan USB is more flexible and takes up less space, and can also be connected to a number of different computers, as it is needed. If you buy a USB card, you can take it along and use it to connect to the internet regardless of your location or of the computer you will be using to do this.
The wireless LAN card is basically an adaptor that comes with an integrated wifi antenna which will scan for nearby network, and offer you access to them, if they are not password protected. Of course you can also access the password protected network if they belong to you or to your office, or someone you know, and you know that password which needs to be entered. This is basically a wireless card that does the same thing as a laptop’s internal wireless hardware module does.
Wireless wlan modules that come with an integrated 54mbps module, can also communicate with routers or other devices that can only output 11mbps. These are the devices using 802.11b technologies. So if you have a wireless g adapter, it can switch frequencies and adapt to new network environments. The signal received is the one that is available in the working environment, and it depends on all types of external factors that wireless network usually depend on.
Because the wlan modules use radio frequencies to operate, they can be influenced by all other similar equipment using the same time of microwaves, regardless if they are USB adapters or internal mini pci cards. Their proper functioning depends on the router propagation functions. If the wireless signal encounters interferences from other devices or from brick walls and other physical obstacles, then the reception gets damaged or even entirely lost.
The USB connector can provide you with the possibility of adding an external antenna for better reception. But you can also add antennas on the mini pci internal card, as long as its connectors are compatible to the ones of the antenna.
There is no doubt that the wlan module is a needed addition to any computer that doesn’t yet have wireless capabilities. The wireless fidelity technology assures a good reception and a constant connection, so an USB wlan module might be needed for a laptop as well. It can be bridged to the laptop’s internal wireless card and together they offer a better wireless experience.
