Wifi Networks & TV

Many people refer to WIFI networks and TV as a type of hybrid program. This simply allows you to be able to watch TV on your laptop. For many people this is a great source of entertainment. It also beats carrying around DVD’s to watch on it. This is also a way for the free TV channels to get a boost in the ratings.

The ability you will have to access TV through a wireless network is going to continue to get better. It is only in its infancy right now but the concept is one that many people are encouraged by. You can be sure that many cable companies will want to cash in on the deal. That way they can get their programming as part of the line up as well. Research and development continues in this area so you can be sure we will encounter some significant improvements on the horizon.

However, the main areas of research aren’t for your laptop. They are involved with how to actually get the right information to your TV through this type of signal. That means it would cost less for TV information to be transmitted and even for you to have the cable or satellite channels that you are interested in. This type of communication is quite interesting imagine the opportunity for companies that can supply a service directly to your TV from your broadband connection that will allow you to access over the air television programs. I’m sure there will be security concerns because if you subscribed to this type of service they would need to encrypt the data and somehow password-protected so only their subscribers code actually have a connection.

So far the testing on it shows that there is great penitential. One barrier right now is the pixel quality that is being transmitted. It is less than they industry standards that are in place. However, the images that were shown on the screen to viewers during the testing were good enough that they didn’t notice any difference in the quality of it.

Another concern though has to do with the amount of bandwidth that it is going to take in order for WI-FI networks to transmit materials on television. Yet this all shows that there is room for more to take place along such lines of technology. Many people call this a way to artificially get programming to TV. Regardless of what it is called, this could transform the way you receive the materials you view on TV in the near future.

It is going to be an extension for how we view TV at home but also for mobile TV. Through this technology we will be able to access the programming we want from home or on our laptops for a very low price. Even with the lower cost, the providers of these networks will still be making plenty of money. This does seem to make some cable companies nervous though. They won’t have the edge that they hold right now and they certainly won’t be able to continue charging ridiculous fees for what they offer.

I guess the companies who traditionally supply a wired service are looking at using wireless routers that work on the 802.11g frequencies to be able to supply this type of service. There are many TV stations that already broadcast on the Web so it’s really getting the hardware in place on the far end so that we do not rely on each Ethernet connections to an access point in order to receive a quality signal. We know that there can be a couple of issues around quality of signal and the range using wi-fi these companies are working around this to make networking work for them.
