Why Wireless Networks More Vulnerable Than Wired Networks

There is no denying the wonderful benefits that wireless networks offer us both at home and when we are on the go. However, it is very important to understand that WIFI also makes us more vulnerable than wired networks. Taking steps to help secure the connections though will help to reduce that risk.

A big part of the problem is the lack of education that people really have about WIFI and that process. They do know it is a great way to use their computers including laptops in more locations but not how that is able to take place. They tend to use it though without fully understanding what is going on and how that makes their information more accessible.

Compatibility issues are a top concern too with wireless networks and that makes them more vulnerable. Different types of components may have to be introduced in order to allow the transfer of data and the accessibility to be in place. This all takes place through the use of a signal that is often sent through an antennae.

The fact that many people out there are intentionally trying to break into these signals to gain information is a huge threat to be aware of. Too many people don’t have powerful firewalls in place for their wireless connection to prevent this from taking place. Since the signals they rely upon come from many sources out there for WIFI, the security they have is going to change depending on the location where they are using the internet.

Data for wireless networking is transferred from a type of technology that involves radio frequency. This is the same type of system that works for cordless phones. Have you ever been talking with someone but then can also hear another conversation going on in the background? That same source is what is being used as you explore the internet with a wireless connection.

Even those wireless systems that offer higher levels of security can be at risk. Criminals already know that they have a great mask of anonymity when they commit crimes involving data they collect from computers. The risk of getting caught is even less when they are out there gathering information from wireless networks. The advantage they have is that so many people are now using them.

Even with this type of additional security in place, you have to remember that these criminals are very good at what they do. They continue to spend their time finding new ways to get access. They also know that approximately 70% of WIFI users out there aren’t checking for any level of real security before they use a wireless network. That means the can continually get access to what they are looking for including documents and financial information.
