What Component Is Used To Boost Wi-Fi Signal Strength
If you are looking for something to boost your WIFI signal strength you have several options in the way of antennas. They are a great way to give you the additional power you need to access the internet from a variety of locations. Sometimes you will have a signal but it is so weak that you just can’t get your work done or explore the internet leisurely. It can be so slow that you become frustrated. With the right type of antennae though you can easily fix such a problem.
The strength of your WIFI card is also going to have some influence over the signal that you have. Most people don’t realize this but it is important to pay attention to. Therefore you don’t want to go out there and buy the lowest priced WIFI signal card that you can find. The assumption that they all work the same is common so make sure you take the time to explore how they work and which one can offer you the most benefit.
Some wireless routers can have their firmware upgraded and use open source firmware, this of course depends on the particular model that you have but my advice is to have a look and see what freeware or shareware is available to download that could help you boost the signal. A friend of mine was recently able to upgrade his firmware and the signal strengths automatically when from 50% to 100% so this does actually work.
You can also arrange your own environment to be able to boost what you get from WI-FI. For example you want reduce the amount of noise that goes on around the connection, and some appliances create noise including a microwave. One way to take care of this problem is to change the cable for that connection.
When you have a very weak WIFI signal, the addition of an antennae may help but not offer what you need. One very simple way to make the signal even stronger is to create a ground plane. This is done by using a sheet of metal as well as wires or rods that connect at the base of the antennae.
It is important to note that where you place your components is also a factor when it comes to boosting WIFI strength. For example if you put it by a window you may get a better signal. In fact, if you choose a specific location for the signal to come from and aim your antennae that direction you will have a better chance of making it stronger. On the same note you need to make sure your signal isn’t too strong as that is a concern as well.
You will find these types of products offered online and in most electronics stores. There is no reason for you not to take advantage of all that WIFI has to offer. When these products first became available on the market they were quite expensive. However, they have dropped to less than half of those original costs so if you blew them off before due to the price now is the time to give them a second look.
You could also look at a high gain USB wireless adapter these can work exceptionally well and I personally use one with my Windows operating system. It simply looks into your USB port you install the software and essentially you aim the dish on the device in any direction but of course you want to point it towards your broadband router. These type of adopters are typically designed for connecting to a wi-fi at a distance so if you’re just using this in your home you will be able to connect easily enough from your computer. Speed of data and the speed of access and the Web has actually increased so I would definitely recommend this type of device.
