Laptop can not see wireless network

Whenever you laptop cannot find the wireless network connection, there are a few things you should take into consideration before becoming all paranoid and getting ready to change the devices with new ones. First of all, if the wireless connection icon is not visible on the laptop, then it means that the wireless has not been turned on. In this case simply push the wi-fi laptop’s button and problem should be solved.

In other cases, a windows Vista laptop can connect but you are not able to see the xp computer on wireless network. Check if the computer you are trying to locate has anything shared. If not, maybe you are looking the shared files folder and since there are none there’s nothing to see. However, if when you are clicking on the computer’s icon from the network and you get an error message, it means that you cannot find the xp computer. There are several reasons for this. Maybe the two devices are using different domain or workgroup names. If you’ve left the standard names when you set up the connections, then they are most definitely different since this is the way Windows manufacturers did things. Go back and create a net network and use the same workgroup this time for both computers on the wireless network.

There are cases in which the fact that the vista laptop cannot see the network is caused by the fact that it is not recognizing the wireless adapter. In normal circumstances, this should be done automatically, but if you’ve installed windows Vista on an older model laptop then there is a high change that the adapter drivers are not properly configured. Since the driver is not recognized, then there’s no wonder that you can not connect to the network. You should access Microsoft website and download the latest Vista updates and also try the laptop’s manufacturer’s website for new Vista laptop driver’s updates.

For more troubleshooting, you can also try and contact the router’s vendor. It is sometimes a problem caused by hardware, or maybe there are some special port and security settings that need to be changed in the router’s config before you can become able to connect a windows Vista laptop to the wireless network sustained by this router. Other times, it’s a simple matter of security. Windows Vista requires a password for sharing & networking. If you want to connect without a password, the access the control panel and under the tab Sharing & Networking locate the setting corresponding to password prompting and make sure it is not enabled.
