How Do I Increase Wireless Signal Strength

Many people confront themselves with this problem, and since the answers given by the manufacturers are quite vague and usually include buying more sophisticated equipment that is required and also spending a lot of extra money, people either give up or do buy all those things they are recommended to buy. If they choose to buy all the extra equipment, then there’s no doubt that in the end they will get a stronger signal in locations they want to connect from, but the issue here is of choosing the right equipment for each situation. There’s no need in buying different things that at some point stop benefiting you, because you’ve already reached your purpose a few equipments ago.

You should make a quick drawing of your apartment, and pin the router’s position. This way, you will be able to have a panoramic idea of how the WiFi signal gets propagated around the house and you will be able to clearly see why some rooms don’t get a good enough signal. Since we all know that wireless technologies works differently in different building because there are so many things that can interfere with it, we have to evaluate all the factors in our case so we can make the most appropriate decision.

Most people live either is standard one floor houses, or apartments that are spread over the same floor, or in normal two flood homes. Let’s say you live in an apartment building, and that you have a big living room in which you will be placing you computer and wireless router. All the other rooms in the house are placed rather centrally around the living room. We have already established that it’s best to keep the router in the living room, because it is a central point and will allow access from every other room of the house, since the wireless signal gets propagated in circles.

If you still don’t get strong enough signal in the other rooms, it might be because of interference with the walls and other objects. In this case you should consider buying a wireless antenna that can be placed in the most central point of the house. This antenna will not be placed near the router, but will be connected to it with a coax. It’s best to place the antenna as high as possible, near the ceiling.

If you live in a home with two floors, then you are probably not getting enough signals in some rooms of the house. The computer is somewhere on the first floor, and so is the router. The coverage you are getting is for that room and the rooms immediately surrounding it, as well as the room placed above it.

But this gives you access on only half the house. What you need to do is buy an additional access point or repeater and place it well above ground, somewhere central on the first floor, where there’s direct access to the second floor. The best place is near the stairs that take you upstairs.
