Connect A Blu-Ray Player Wireless Network

It is possible to connect a Blu-Ray player to a wireless network. This gives you the freedom to use it for much more than just watching movies. Your Blu-Ray player is going to come with some software already built into it. This is called firmware and it comes on all of the newer players. However, if you have one that is old you may need to upgrade what you have. The various components for doing so can be found on the internet.

You will notice that your Blu-Ray player has an Ethernet port on it. If yours came with a cable then you are all set to get it connected to the wireless network this way. Some people though will tell you it is hard to buy this piece separately so if you have been exploring the internet for it without success that is why. If your Blue-Ray player came with this cable or you can get your hands on one, then your next course of action is to look at the router connected to your computer for the internet.

If the router only has one port then you are going to need to upgrade that as well. You will find quality routers out there that have up to four ports on them. You can get one of them for about $75. However, many of the newer routers have at least two ports on them so you may already have everything you need to successfully plug this in.

When you are shopping for routers you need to pay close attention to the type that it is. For example a type A isn’t compatible so you won’t be able to connect a Blu-Ray player to the wireless network with it. Type B will work but it is very slow when it comes to the connection speed and that can be very frustrating. Find either a Type G or Type N as they will work well, with the

Type N being more expensive and faster but the Type G is affordable and you will be happy enough with the speed. You also need to get a power supply for the Blu-Ray because the port doesn’t provide that for you. The main reason you need all this to be connected to your computer is for the initial configuration process.

There are also adaptors out there for wireless connecting you can take advantage of. Keep in mind though that you need to get one that is specifically for a Blu-Ray. A common mistake is to get one designed for a computer wireless connection but they aren’t the same. This is because a Blu-Ray isn’t set up with a computer operating system inside of it so the data can’t properly be read or transferred in such a format.

A friend of mine was chatting to me about setting up his player for streaming.  The idea he had for this was allowed him to watch any movies on any PC with in his home. One of the things he wanted to be able to do most use his laptop and try to find some software that would enable him to route the information from his player and play on the laptop. To be honest I have no idea how he was going to configure this whole setup and what type of software he will need to install to get this working. One of the first things he done most to go online and check if there was any type of adapter devices is available so he could actually stream information. We also checked out the manual to be honest were unable to find anything of use.  The Web is obviously an ideal location for finding this type of information and so far he has been unable to get this working successfully. I’ll keep you posted if he is able to do this wirelessly.
