Lexmark Printer Repair

Troubleshooting your Lexmark printer can be very difficult and time consuming but worth the trouble and cost of sending it out to get fixed.  Before you do anything with your printer you need to know what’s wrong with it first.  I know this sounds simple but the first thing you need to do is see if there’s paper and ink in the printer.  If there is then you need to check to see if there is anything jammed in the printer.  You would be surprised what you can get caught in your printer.

My mother in law called me and asked me to fix her printer.  Once I found what was jamming it I was surprised.  It was the plastic off the top of a medicine bottle that got caught in the top of the paper feeder.  I had to use tweezers to get the plastic out.  My printer got jammed when my dog hid her kibble in the top of my printer.  I had to unplug my printer, turn it upside down and shake it to get all the kibble out.  If you check all of these things and your Lexmark printer still won’t print then you might want to see if there is an error in your print cache.  This can be fixed by deleting the error.  Other ways to check your printer is to got to printer, properties and then tools and run down the list.  If this still doesn’t work then  you go to the more complex troubleshooting or repair.

A lot of times when you purchase a printer from an electronics store you can get an extended warranty for your printer.  Most of the time this covers anything that happens to the printer within one to five years.  This makes it easy to do any repairs because you don’t have to do anything but bring it back to the store you bought it from.  But if you didn’t buy the extended warranty and don’t want to buy a new printer you can try to fix it yourself.  Just remember these tips and everything should be ok.

  • Before you do anything make sure the printer is off and unplugged both from the power supply and the computer.
  • Use the user guide to try and fix any problems you have with your Lexmark printer.
  • Only use Lexmark or approved parts with your printer.
  • Don’t get over you head.  If you don’t think you can do it, don’t.

You can find ways to fix your printer online at justanswer.com.  You type your question and then someone answers you.  You could even go to Lexmark.com and go to tech support.  They will either email you or call you to walk you through the problem.  You could even find a generalized book on printer repair.  Lexmark printers are one of the best printers on the market so whether they are for office or your home, if you do regular maintenance you may not have to do any repairs for a long time.

So remember don’t put anything on the top of your printer, change the ink when needed and do your regular maintenance on your printer and you will have a great printer for a very long time.
