HP Printer Problems
HP printers are generally really reliable in the vast range that they have available from portable to high-end LaserJet’s work in all sorts of environments without any problems. However, there can be problems from time to time like any other technology. Some of these issues are common problems associated with most printers are not specific to Hewlett-Packard. The list below is just a quick overview of the types of problems that can occur that will hopefully help you out.
Paper jams
This is probably one of the most common problems with printing. There are a number of reasons why this could happen. For example the printer is dirty you are using the wrong type of paper the roller that help feed the paper thought the pathway are unfortunately worn out. It’s important that you keep your printer in a clean environment and that you periodically take the time to give it a quick clean. Feeding can occur for a number of reasons the most common is your printer is starting to get low on toner. You can also check to see in the print density has been set too low you may need to go into settings to adjust this.
The solution could also be economic printing has been switched on. This is a simple setting again you need to doublecheck your settings on the printer. You can also just do a printer or self test which will print out a list of all the settings that have been done. In this list you will see exactly what the settings have been put to. If you have any type of problem with this simply consult the manuals section on accessing settings and changing them.
50.4 error message
this is a quite common message on some new HP LaserJet printers and is quite easy to resolve. The message is basically telling you that there is a problem with the power supply. Check to see if it’s connected to a UPS. If this is the case you simply need to disconnect it from the UPS and plug it directly into a wall socket. The reason for this is that laserjets printers require the fuser unit assembly to keep warm for this it draws power, which the UPS may not particularly like.
This is not the issue just open up your printer and make sure that all the components are seated properly. If you have recently moved to printer or you have replaced a toner just make sure that everything is set back into place properly.
Ghosting
you may have seen this before it’s where the image is printed perfect but you also get a much lighter copy printed also just underneath like a shadow. There are two reasons why this can happen one can be a hardware reason where some of the consumable printer parts like drum kit or imaging kit need to be replaced. Depending on how much printing you are doing these actually have a life span and are probably at the end of their life span by simply replacing them can solve the issue.
Another issue that can cause this is problems with the new power. You can try a couple of things by using a different printer in the same power outlet to see you getting the same issue or by simply moving the printer to a different one that may not have issues will actually solve the issue again this is related to making sure that the fuser unit is always warm and that’s why it needs to draw power at various times once it is plugged in.
Operating system drivers
Because of the variety of computer operating systems and the amount of different types of printers this can be an issue of times. Most HP printers will work using LaserJet II drivers. You will find these as standard on most Windows operating systems like XP and Vista. However this will just give you general printing and will not allow you to use any specific options like duplexing.
Most drivers are available to download from the HP website if you are in trouble a simple visit to their website and entering the support area you can download all drivers directly. You will find a driver for all HP products that can be downloaded quite easily. Just make sure you have the model number before going to their website.
Prints from the wrong paper tray
This is a very simple issue and can’t be fixed quite quickly. The 1st Pl. you should look is the computer you are printing from. If your application is set to print to the wrong printer tray you can simply fix this by clicking the properties and finding the tray selection source.
On the printer you can simply just check and make sure that the paper size in your control panel is the exact same as what is in the paper tray.
These are just a few of the common issues and solutions that can occur on HP printers whether it is a DeskJet, inkjet, officejet or LaserJet. It makes no difference if you are printing out documents or photos and it really doesn’t matter what type of software you are using.
