HTC S743 with slide out keyboard Review
HTC have just announced a new phone the HTC S743, the Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone is set to launch in the US and comes with a numberpad and a separate sliding keyboard but alas no touchscreen (which we’ve seen lots of these from HTC lately)
The S743 is the North American version of the S740, which was launched a few months ago in Europe.
When you first look at the phone it looks like your standard candybar phone. But, on closer examination you get a full QWERTY keyboard hidden behind the screen. The phone comes with a 2.4-inch, QVGA display, which give clear pictures.
It’s a quad-band GSM phone and will also come with Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi for connect to wireless network at home or in the office.
The OS as expected is Windows Mobile 6.1 and with the help of the 528 MHz processor should run smoothly, it also comes with 256 MB of RAM, 256 MB of Flash ROM and for extra storage also has a microSD card slot.
If you like to take pictures to capture that moment it comes with a 3.2 MPx camera and a GPS receiver. Battery time is around 320 mins when 3G is switched on and 400 hours on stand-by. If you want to get longer out of the battery just switch off the 3G and the battery will last longer. HTC reckon that you’ll get 380 mins once 3G is switch off.
The phone is 4.6 inches tall, 1.7 inches wide, and 0.65 inches thick and comes in at 4.9 ounces in weigh.
The HTC 743 is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2009 and so far no pricing is available. The plan is to sell this unlocked so it will be available on all networks but you may have issues with 3G access on the T-Mobile network, check before you buy.
